Protein Identification at CAC

One proven method of protein identification is to utilize Mass Spectrometry (MS), specifically to use Peptide Mass Fingerprinting.

Peptide Mass Fingerprinting is a method where a Mass Spectrometer analyzes peptide fragments that have been "cut" or "cleaved" by an enzymatic process. Peptides are the basic building blocks of larger, complex proteins. These protein fragments or peptides are then correlated to a protein or nucleotide sequence database. With the use of a robust MS technique, such as MALDI (Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization), a very robust and high throughput process is yielded. For analytical Proteomics research, the Peptide Mass Fingerprinting method yields excellent results. CAC offers state-of-the-art LC-MS and MALDI for contract peptide fingerprinting services, all under the direction of our VP research, the inventor of electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, Nobel Laureate Dr. John Fenn.
