What are the various types of hepatitis?

There are at least five types of hepatitis caused by different hepatitis viruses.

• Hepatitis A - formerly called "infectious hepatitis"
• Hepatitis B - formerly called "serum hepatitis"
• Hepatitis C - formerly called "non-A, non-B hepatitis"
• Hepatitis D - also known as "delta hepatitis," an infection that exists
  only in combination with hepatitis B virus
• Hepatitis E - formerly known as "epidemic" or "water-borne non-A,
  non-B hepatitis"
